The Energy Initiative Leadership Council is a select group of corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, advisors, scientists, policy makers and academics that provide high-level governance and strategic direction to the University of Colorado at Boulder Energy Initiative. Created to merge the private sector's market-based experience and perspective with the innovative research capabilities of the scientists and faculty at CU-Boulder, the Council provides a powerful leadership team for the Energy Initiative. CU-Boulder Chancellor, Bud Peterson and Dick Kelly, CEO of Xcel Energy, will serve as the co-chairs of the council during its inaugural term from 2008-2010. The Council is composed of twenty private sector seats and ten honorary seats for policymakers and elected officials.
