Three Brownstein IP Attorneys Ranked by Intellectual Asset Magazine Patent 1000

Craig Hemenway, Paul Prendergast and Cara Crowley-Weber, shareholders in Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck’s Denver office, are named this year in the 2015 Intellectual Asset Magazine (IAM) Patent 1000 Rankings. These attorneys are recognized by IAM for their work in patent prosecution and intellectual property transactions. According to IAM, Brownstein’s IP Group “has in-depth understanding of business and on-point knowledge of the latest developments in clients’ technology areas.”

Every year, IAM compiles a list of the top 1000 patent attorneys in the world and breaks it down by country and U.S. state, recommending those considered leaders in the field. The process involves extensive international research including interviews with more than 1,500 individuals to gather feedback from peers and clients with knowledge of the attorneys’ practices and markets.

Brownstein’s IP Group handles trademarks, patents, counseling and submission, technology issues and intellectual property as it applies to corporate transactions. These attorneys help clients realize the full value of intellectual property rights through licensing agreements, joint ventures and development strategies and guide clients through product development as well as any issue associated with the acquisition, enforcement and exploitation of intellectual property.

Hemenway was recognized by IAM in 2014 and 2015 for both prosecution and transactions. He works with both startups and major corporations, including a Fortune 50 technology client, providing strategic counseling, managing complex portfolios of patent assets, advising on complex IP transactions, licensing IP assets, and providing opinions of counsel. Brownstein’s lead patent attorney for high tech matters, he is a former control systems engineer with deep experience in both patent law and engineering. Insiders interviewed by IAM call Hemenway the “fuel” of Brownstein’s IP practice.

Prendergast, also ranked in 2014, is a patent attorney focusing on life science and chemical issues in the areas of patent prosecution, strategic patent portfolio advice, reexaminations, clearance counseling, diligence analysis, opinion counsel and post grant proceedings. His experience spans various aspects of intellectual property law, including U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, freedom to operate opinions, infringement and validity opinions, licensing agreements, and overall due diligence reviews.

Crowley-Weber’s practice is a combination of opinion practice, due diligence and patent prosecution in the biotechnology, chemical, energy and agriculture industries. Her work includes advising clients on intellectual property matters related to freedom-to-operate opinions, non-infringement and invalidity opinions, due diligence assessments for mergers and acquisitions or investments, licensing agreements, and U.S. and foreign patent prosecution.
