Drawing on her background representing health care organizations and professionals in a variety of matters before trial and appellate courts, as well as in private arbitration, Anna-Liisa Mullis strategizes with clients to resolve complex disputes. Her work includes both defending and prosecuting a multitude of complex matters involving hospital-provider contracting, hospital-vendor contracting, hospital-physician joint ventures, physician-owned entities and provider-payor disputes as well as antitrust disputes in the healthcare sector. Along with her litigation practice, Anna-Liisa also works closely with clients on analyzing and advising on fraud and abuse, patient privacy, data and innovation matters. She is known for her ability to build trust in a heavily regulated space and to grasp complicated concepts specific to the industry.
Anna-Liisa has devoted considerable time to pro bono work, including working on both of the cases brought in an effort to increase K-12 school funding in Colorado, Lobato v. State and Dwyer v. State. Anna-Liisa has also contributed a significant amount of pro bono time to counseling non-profits with regard to a variety of HIPAA and other health care matters.
Performed comprehensive HIPAA Security Rule risk analysis of a Colorado medical practice and developed recommendations for enhancement of the client’s HIPAA security practices.
Obtained a full victory on behalf of a hospital after a trial on a claim against a hospital related to billing for a self-pay surgical procedure.
Obtained complete dismissal of a complex lawsuit against a health care management services organization alleging tort and Colorado Consumer Protection Act claims based on alleged violations of Colorado’s coordination of benefits laws and regulations.
Successfully represented physician practice and physician owners of practice in a lawsuit by former physician employee alleging a variety of contract and tort claims arising from the former physician employee’s employment with the practice.
Obtained summary judgment in favor of majority owner of an ambulatory surgery center against members of physician owner group on claims relating to buy-outs of the physicians by the physician owner group.
Briefed and argued case on behalf of the estate of a deceased physician before the Colorado Court of Appeals involving the application of evidence rules to an informed consent claim.
