McKissick, Matthew J.

In his intellectual property practice, Matthew McKissick draws on deep scientific roots and a thorough grasp of technical concepts. Matthew offers clients a unique perspective as he combines his real-world experiences as a scientist with his love for art, music and entertainment. 

During law school, Matthew was a staff member of the Nevada Law Journal and a member of the Sports and Entertainment Law Association. He also worked as a legal intern for the Las Vegas Valley Water District and externed for Judge Jennifer A. Dorsey and Judge Andrew P. Gordon at U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada. Before earning his law degree, he worked at SWCA Environmental Consultants as a natural resources project manager and at Santec Environmental Resources LLC as a project manager and hydrologist, where he satisfied environmental compliance requirements for clients developing renewable energy facilities, mines and transportation projects.

Representative Matters
  • Nevada counsel to MGM Resorts International and MGM Growth Properties LLC in connection with forming a joint venture with Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust to acquire the Las Vegas real estate assets of the MGM Grand and Mandalay Bay for $4.6 billion. Concurrent with the acquisition, MGM Resorts entered into a master lease to lease from the joint venture and operate both properties.

  • Nevada counsel to MGM Resorts International in Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust’s $4.2 billion acquisition of Bellagio real estate from MGM and lease back to MGM. This sale has been said to be the single largest resort sale in Las Vegas’ history.
